If it is to move to a larger, or more desireable home timing the market is not so important so long as that new home is readily available. When you buy and sell in the same market you are insulated somewhat from loss. That being said, today is an excellent time to sell, if you need to, in order to improve your living standard. Especially if you have an older mortgage on the one you sell and a new mortgage at today’s rates and terms on the new home. Usually that new home will be at a higher price and you may even improve your actual out of pocket payment for the mortgage.

But consider the possibility of not selling. It is possible you may be better off keeping the old home and renting it out. A close examination of that option may launch you into taking advantage of the benefits using real estate investing as a sound, tried and true, way of accumulating wealth.

If you absolutely have deterrmined you must sell and close escrow within 4 or 5 months then now is the time to contact a real estate expert to advise you.

If you do not have a real high need to sell this year to reach a goal you have set then you may want to wait. When in doubt I recommend consulting with an expert Realtor. They can at least help you analyse your options.
